About Aegis Rider
Aegis Rider is an ETH Zürich spin-off on a mission to make motorcycling safer through spatial augmented reality. Since 2020, we've put our technology in the hands of 200+ test riders — from professionals, journalists, to everyday motorcyclists — because the road is the only test lab that matters.
How it all began
Aegis Rider was founded in 2020 with a clear mission: to make motorcycling safer through advanced augmented reality. Built by passionate riders and engineers, the company set out to go beyond traditional helmet protection by giving riders real-time, in-helmet information that improves awareness and faster decision-making on the road.
Today, Aegis Rider is leading innovation in motorcycle helmets with its Vision Helmet, which blends premium helmet design with revolutionary spatial anchoring technology.
ETH Zürich spin-off
Aegis Rider spins off from the ETH Zürich Computer Vision Lab via the Pioneer Fellowship program. The founding team sets out to solve a problem no one else had cracked: spatially anchored AR on a motorcycle.
First prototypes
The team relocates to Cape Town for the three winter months, enabling intensive prototype development and testing. Partnerships with motorcycle industry players begin. Team expands including a dedicated test rider.
On the road
Over 40 riders test the AR helmet across industry demonstrations and proof-of-concept projects with major motorcycle and automotive OEMs. In-house testers begin logging extensive kilometres.
CES debut and rider campaign
Stage presentation at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. EICMA debut. Back home in Zürich, we invite 15+ motorcyclists to our offices for real-road test rides — the first wave of potential customers to experience the system. Over 50 riders test the helmet this year.
Nexx partnership matures
After three years of joint development, the partnership with Nexx becomes production-ready. Aegis Rider's AR technology is integrated into the proven X.WST3 helmet platform — an ECE 22.06 certified shell built by one of Europe's most respected helmet manufacturers.
Certification and Norton
ECE 22.06 homologation testing. First 50-unit production run at Nexx in Portugal. Norton vehicle integration demo showcases the fully connected motorcycle experience. 30 more potential customers ride the system in Zürich — bringing total test riders past 200.
Market launch
CES 2026 exhibition in Las Vegas. Pre-orders open. First consumer units ship from Portugal. The Aegis Rider Vision helmet and AR Optics accessory become available across the EU and Switzerland.
